User and rights management – how to stay in control

As a domain reseller, agency or company, your business is growing. You have new employees, freelancers or customers who are supposed to manage certain areas independently. The old game: everyone gets the same access data, which quickly ends in chaos. What happens if someone quits? Or if a customer accidentally deletes the wrong domain? This is exactly where professional user and rights management comes into play. It is not a luxury, but the basis for a secure and efficient business. Imagine you could give everyone exactly the access they really need – no more and no less.

Why is granular rights management so important?

In short: for three simple reasons.

  1. Security: An employee who is only responsible for the finances does not need access to the domain administration. This minimizes the risk of unintentional errors or malicious intent.
  2. Efficiency: Your team can concentrate on their tasks. A webmaster has secure DNS access with our “domain release” feature – without having to look into sensitive areas such as billing or owner data. While the accountant takes care of invoices – everyone where they belong.
  3. Scalability: As your business grows, so does your team. Sophisticated rights management ensures that the access structure does not become a bottleneck. You can onboard new employees quickly and securely.

Users and rights in the reseller interface: The basics

Our interface makes administration child’s play. You can create user profiles, assign roles to them and give these roles specific rights.

  • Users: Simply create new users by assigning a user name, a secure password and a status (active/inactive). Important: The user type cannot be changed afterwards, so consider whether the user should use the interface(website user) or access the system via API(API user). It is also possible to allow a user to use the extended view.
  • Roles and rights: This is the heart of the administration. Instead of assigning rights to each user individually, you work with rights groups. These are like templates that you create once and can then assign to any number of users. Note: There are also ready-made system templates that you are welcome to use.

It’s that simple: An example from practice

Imagine you want to give your accountant access to the finances, but not to the domain administration. And your new freelancer should only have access to domains in order to change DNS entries.

  1. Create the “Accounting” rights group: Select all financial entries that are relevant and save the group.
  2. Create rights group “Domain-View”: Give read-only access to domains. This allows the user to view DNS entries, but not edit them. You could also create a “Domain administration” group with write access.
  3. Create and assign users: Create the user “Accountant” and assign him the rights group “Accounting”. You also create the user “Freelancer” and give him the group “Domain-View”. Done.

With this system, you create clear, transparent structures. You can always see which rights belong to which role and who has which role.

For beginners and professionals: the right way for every situation

  • For beginners: Use our system templates. They are preconfigured for standard roles such as “User – read-only access” or “Accounting user”. This saves time and you start immediately with a secure setup.
  • For professionals: With the expert mode, you can create your own rights groups and blocking groups. This is ideal for complex team structures where you need to control access down to the last detail. You can also manage your own user roles and specify them further.

Conclusion: Well thought-out user and rights management is the key to a sustainably successful reseller business. It protects you, your team and your customers from mistakes, ensures clear responsibilities and saves you time and nerves in the long term.

No more worries about accidental domain deletions or unclear access rights. You stay in control at all times and can focus on what really matters: growing your business.
